I'd always wanted to do 'the tourist thing' whilst visiting London over the years......you know: Buckingham Palace, Trafalgar Square, Big Ben etc, etc!
As a child, I spent quite a lot of time in London; with my younger brother being terribly ill in Great Ormond Street Hospital, we literally made the regular, repetitive trips from Liverpool Street to the Hospital via underground and then home again. Never stopping to admire the things that make London, London! It was just one of those things, I suppose.
There was a long period of time whereas I didn't visit London at all, I went on a few uni theatre trips - and I remember getting lost in soho in my early twenties. I also remember visiting Abbey Road Studios a couple of years ago. So, I guess on reflection: I can appreciate I've been to a fair amount of places around London. Recently, I've been staying around the Brick Lane area. Vintage shopping primarily.
I wanted this trip to London to tick most of those embarrassing boxes that graced the back of my mind - now, I can say I've walked past Big Ben; I've stood outside Buckingham Palace when the Queen was at home. I went to Trafalgar Square ( although, I was expecting more than just 6 pigeons) (just like in that Elizabeth Taylor picture!).
The weather was traditional British........rainy, with fog - which, I didn't really mind. I'd brought along my mint colour wedges to wear in posey pictures in the park, however; it was rather wet and I couldn't be dealing with shoe changes every five minutes, so they remained heavy, in my bag.
There's so much to see and do when visiting London, and I honestly wish I could have more time there (maybe even live there) - visit more often. Yet it's so, so expensive to take a train there, even when booked weeks in advance. I'd love to go at least once a month, but alas my purse does not permit such lavish spending behaviour. My life must remain frugal, at least for now. Not helpful when wanting to travel more, but hey ho!!

Such nice photos. Have you ever looked at Megatrain? Sometimes you can get pretty good deals (unless you want to travel on a Sunday).
ReplyDeleteThese photos are absolutely gorgeous! And even though it was all miserable and rainy, you still shone through with that beautiful smile :) So glad you had a wonderful time!
