Highly Commended - National UK Blog Awards 2014!

ukba14w
Hello......Happy Sunday, hope you are all enjoying your weekend?!
So, Friday evening was the event of the year; I'd been so excited to attend - albeit rather nervous, of course.
I'd spent many weeks planning and searching for the perfect dress, bag, shoes etc. I finally (after weeks of searching) found my dress on Fashion Bone on etsy and had it shipped over from Ohio, US. It's not often a girl like me gets to dress spectacularly for an event such as this in such a prestigious venue in London.
If I'm honest, I have mixed feelings about the whole evening. I'm so, so happy that Dear Thirty was awarded 'Highly Commended' in my lifestyle category. I knew the obvious winner would be 'Life as a Widower'  - I'd thought that right from the very beginning.......he's had amazing success with his story and blog; has appeared on national TV, among other things. So really, coming runner-up to this blog is an amazing achievement for me :)
I was a little bit confused however about the dress code of the event. Most people looked amazing - black tie!  Alex from Bambella Blog (Congratulations Alex for winning in your category!) who looked stunning with blue hair and a black floor length sequin gown - simply timeless! However, there appeared to be a number of people in jeans and converse - erm?! What?!?
Another confusing thing: In our goodie bags, we had small square carpet samples from carpetright - confusion.dot.com with that one! They were also handing out wallpaper roll to everyone - erm.....I didn't want one understandably.
Aside from the oddities of the evening, the event was beautifully put together (although they'd run out of free champagne by the time we'd arrived ) (and bottles of wine were £27.50 - Eeeek!) with free popcorn and candyfloss to eat whilst the awards took place.
I did feel however; the evening centred around 'How to make money from your blog' -  my blog makes me zero £$£$ - I have no interest whatsoever in cashing in on my blog........
Now don't get me wrong: if I happen to make a bit of cash along the way, or if fabulous companies want to send me nice things to try - then fine, why not? but I won't go looking for it! It was a little presumptuous on their part, to assume everyone who writes a blog, does it only to make money...... but, whatever, I let it wash over me........andddd, tried (very hard) not to pass out in my 1950's dusky pink girdle - How women wore a girdle all day long is beyond me......although, I do believe mine was a couple of sizes too small for me, so that may well have something to do with it ;)
All-in-all, we had a lovely weekend in London and I'll post more pictures soon!

  5. What a stunning outfit... can't believe people went in jeans and trainers. I would have embraced the 'Oscars' side of things and gone for full-on glamour like you did. :)

    1. I completely agree - how often do you get a chance to do a red carpet event? Jeans and converse are most definitely a no no! haha ;)

Yes, they are a little odd - It would have been lovely to blog about the goodie bag, which is a shame..........although, I may still - would that be something you'd like to see?! ;)

  8. You looked amazing! I do understand your displeasure with the dresscode, I am too often letdown by people not caring at all about it, I wonder why the organizera are actually letting these people in when they clearly did not follow the dresscode. But the carpet samples are funny, maybe a joke? :D

    1. Awww thank you!
Yes, it was a little odd......reminds me of when I had my degree graduation ball - everyone (including my classmates) wore clubbing clothes and I turned up wearing a floor length Laura Ashley gown, long gloves and a tiara - haha! Needless to say, I felt like a plum all evening and didn't enjoy myself :o
One lesson I learned there: Communication ;) hehe!

and you're right about the carpet tiles........I don't even know what to do with them!!

  9. Congratulations Emma! I saw you on the night and thought you looked gorgeous unlike those people in jeans and converse! I too share your feelings about the drinks situation (I missed out on free champers too and had to pay £27.50 for a bottle of wine eeek ) and also your confusion about the carpet samples(very random)! I hope you had a good night other than that :)

    1. Thank you!!
I think I arrived a little late tbh, it took longer to get ready than I'd thought (I'd stupidly left my curling tongs at home and had to find an emergency pair at Argos) - which was a little daunting when everyone was already pretty merry (no doubt on the free champers haha)!
Hope you had a great time too (and of course, you enjoyed that wine!) now - what to do with those carpet samples ;) x
