I've been experimenting with this method of inky nail tranfer-iness for a few weeks now after I saw the idea browsing the net........and after looking through my bookmarks to remind myself where I found it? It was on Modcloth. As you can see, they used Maps.........I've already tried this - it works so well........and looks very quirky, which........for me, is a good thing!
This time around I thought I'd try newspaper text, something a little different - besides I've sorta run out of map. I keep eyeing up my dads road map in his car - but I don't think he'd be happy if I started cutting pages from it!
So this is how I gave my fingernails a bit of literacy artwork........
What you will need:
Fingers
White Opaque Varnish - I'm using Maybelline Color Show in 130 Winter Baby
Top Coat - I'm using All in One Base and Top Coat by Barry M
A Newspaper
Alcohol - Vodka, or other clear spirit. I'm using Tequila
I like to get everything ready before I start, I'm incredibly clumsy and it is inevitable that I will bugger up my nails if I so much as move whilst they're wet.
The Method:
1. Cut up your newspaper into manageable squares.......I always do a few extra - just in case.
2. Varnish your nails in the white until they are opaque.
3. When your nails are completely dry - Patience is a virtue here.......trust me, no one wants newspaper actually stuck to their wet fingernails ;) - dip your white nail into the alcohol for a few seconds.........
4. Taking the newspaper, place it carefully on the nail - try to keep it still, otherwise the print will come out fuzzy...........I like to press really hard on my paper as I like to achieve a dark print.
5. Remove paper, repeat with other nails.
6. When all nails are printed and looking fabulous quickly top coat them, being careful not to apply too much pressure to the inky words......I find that too much pressure makes the ink run a bit.
7. Allow top coat to dry
8. Wash hands to remove ink from around fingernails ;)
........and your done - Enjoy!
Love this! I have to try this. The biggest thing will be waiting for my nails to dry fully:) Thanks for sharing!
